Chinese policy-makers presented with new developments in the EAEU

A high-level delegation of the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of the People’s Republic of China visited IIASA in Vienna, Austria on 6 June 2019 under the overall motto “Global governance and the building of the Belt and Road Initiative with international organisations”.

Among the main functions of the NDRC are the formulation and implementation of national economic and social development strategies, monitoring of macroeconomic and social development trends and provision of forecasts, study of major issues concerning restructuring of economic systems and opening up to the outside world, and promotion of sustainable development strategy.

A special focus during the visit is on the regions of the Silk Road Economic Belt (SREB). Elena Rovenskaya, program director of IIASA Advanced Systems Analysis Program and acting program director of IIASA Evolution and Ecology Program introduced the delegation to the IIASA research project “Challenges and Opportunities of Economic Integration within a Wider European and Eurasian Space”.

Yuri Kofner, research assistant, IIASA; editor-in-chief, Eurasian Studies, gave a report on recent developments of the Eurasian Economic Union and its relations with international partners, transport connectivity in Greater Eurasia. Dmirty Erohin, research assistant, IIASA gave a presentation on the EU’s and EAEU’s digital agendas.

Gui-Ying Cao, Senior Research Scholar, IIASA Exploratory and Special Projects, will discuss with the delegation IIASA integrated approach on China’s labor and employment under demographic-technological transitions.

This visit is organized in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber (WKÖ) and it will help to promote further cooperation between the Chinese government and scientific community and IIASA.
