On Victory Day – May 9, 2018, the foreign and domestic participants of the “Greater Eurasia” young researchers school (May 7 to May 13, 2018) in the Republic of Tatarstan, as part of the cultural program visited the Victory Day parade in Kazan and made a tour of the Kazan Kremlin, the Kremlin embankment and Old-Tatar Sloboda.
In the first half of the Victory Day holiday, the participants of the School were invited to look at the Victory Parade. Various battalions of the famous Russian army marched in front of the awe-inspiring walls of the Kazan Kremlin. Behind them drove columns of mechanized military equipment. For the first time the T-34 tank, the IS-3 tank and the legendary BM-13 “Katyusha” paraded through the streets. In addition, an exhibition of modern models of Russioan military equipment was organized on the square. Among them T-80 and T-90 tanks, units of BMP, BMP-2, BMP-3 and BTR-80.
After the Victory Day pared the participants of the School were given an excursion through the picturesque Kazan Kremlin, along the Kremlin Embankment, and into the Old-Tatar Sloboda. Co-organizer of the School, representative of the Ministry of Cultur of the Republic of Tatarstan Farkhad Gumarov showed the young researchers the main sites of the Kazan Kremlin: the Spasskaya Tower, the Süyumbike Tower, the Palace (Vvedensky) Church, the Presidential Palace, the Annunciation Cathedral, and, of course, the Kul-Sharif Mosque.
In the Old-Tatar settlement, Farhad Gumarov told the participants about the history, culture and traditions of modern Tatar peoples. Further, in honor of Victory day, the historian gave them a lecture on “They returned with Victory” – about the personal exploits of the Tatarstanians who fought in the Red Army for the liberation of their Motherland. After some leisure time in the city, in the evening the participants were given a screening of the documentary “War of the Unforgiven” about the role of the Tatar peoples in the Great Patriotic War.
It is remarkable that, along with the official rhetoric of the heads of states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and its supranational body – the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) that the EAEU is an exclusively economic union, we see that the memory of the joint struggle against the fascist invaders and the common Victory of the Soviet peoples in the Great Patriotic War is a common holiday and a unifying value shared by the peoples of all the member states of the Eurasian Economic Union. This, for example, is evidenced by the official appeal of the Chairman of the Commission, Tigran Sarksyan on the EEC website:
“May 9 is a special date in the history of the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. It will forever remain a day of common memory. We pay tribute to the courage of our peoples. Our common duty is to remember the price of Victory, cherish the heroic past, build a secure future together, do everything to prevent such tragic events from happening again. Congratulations! Happy Victory Day! “.
